How do humans look at animals and what happens when animals look back? What is our relationship and responsibility towards nonhumans? What is the difference between human animals and non-human animals? The “question of the animal” has baffled philosophers for hundreds of years. After Descartes pronounced the animal a machine, our relationship with animals has been in flux. As an artist, I have been observing animals for decades and I still ask myself why. What is it about them that has held my interest for so many years?
